Two friends

Last night, as the little ones were sleeping and Troy was watching television, Gus and I sat in the chairs pictured below. We held hands and delighted in the cold air, the still night, the dark sky and the many stars above us. We thanked each other for the long and rewarding path of our friendship, and we laughed at remembered times in the past. With tears in our eyes, we spoke of those who are no longer with us, and with a glimmer in our eyes, we spoke with love for those who are present. We remembered yesterday and rejoiced in the best of now. It was a gentle night, an easy conversation with no direction, two age-old friends sharing in the comfort of each other's presence and the satisfying feeling of the trust in our continued journey. Sweet is the peace and serenity I felt last night.

Two friends

This morning when we were in the bakery, the woman behind the counter looked at us and said, Are you two related? Gus and I looked at each other and smiled, then she looked back at the woman and said, No, but we should be.
